Round 4 of the Oak Tree Open saw Randy Hough (2000) take the lead in sole first place with a perfect 4/4 score. Hough defeated Thompson (1977) on top board as
Gregg Fritchle (2034) kept close chase by beating Wendell Salveron (1937) on board 2. Hough and Fritchle will square off on board 1 next week in a game that could go
a long way towards deciding the tournament winner.
Eren Karadyi (1806) has been flying under the radar but is suddenly in contention after an excellent win over Dane Hinrichsen (2000). Robert Head (1586) is having a good tournament
but lost out to Alexander Xie (1944) on fourth board. On other boards near the top, Mike Carlson (2100) beat Bill Kiplinger (1830),
Jesse Victoria (2082) beat Aaron Chang (1708), and Ed Sanjenis (2040) won against Thurlo Mishler (1802).
Our last tournament winner, Michael Cooper (2040), kept ticking along nicely with a win over Michael Bond (1618). Stephanie Shao (1663) had an excellent draw vs Matthew Hayes (2017) with
both players in dire time trouble. And in the "Battle of the Daves", Dave Matson (2008) beat out David King (1709).
There were a few upsets, particularly Timothy Jao's (1636) win over John Anderson (1811), Titus Wu's (841) draw against Abinanada Mukundan (1167), and Joseph Jao's (1423) vs Jeff Schroeder (1897).
