Round 2 of the Oak Tree Open took place last night with an increased turnout of 58 players. We also welcomed Cory Chen and Melvinto Asuncion
to their first ever tournaments in Arcadia.
The upsets continued this week as Richard Yang (1904) won against Michael Cooper (2037) on top board and Bill Kiplinger (1803) beat David
Argall (2026) in a home cooked variation of the French Exchange. James Marshall (1429) had a very handy draw against Stephanie Shao (1663) to
continue his fine start to the tournament after also drawing against Dane Hinrichsen (2000) in the first round.
There were no other major upsets with wins for Victoria, Sanjenis, Fritchle, Hayes, Hough, Matson and Hinrichsen. Round 3 is next Monday and
the pairings are getting tastier with Xie - Fritchle, Salveron - Hayes, Yang - Hough, and Kiplinger - Thompson on the top few boards... that's
assuming the pairings don't change, of course!
The Oak Tree Open will continue on Monday, August 29.
