Bio
Hi. My name is Joaquin and I am 18 years old. My peak USCF rating is 2200 (NM) and my peak US Chess age-ranking is #1 (Age 6 on February 2011 Top 100 list).
I have won nine (9) individual national scholastic championships:
clear 1st at the Kindergarten section at the 2009 K-12 Nationals (7.0/7, Dallas TX);
clear 1st in the Grade 1 section at the 2010 K-12 Nationals (6.5/7, Orlando FL -- I was the only player to repeat as champion there);
clear 1st in the K-3 section at the 2011 National Youth Action West (8.0/9 @ Irvine CA);
clear 1st in the 8 & Under section at the 2012 National Junior Congress,
repeating there in 2013 (5.0/5 both times @ Burlingame/San Francisco CA);
tied for 1st in the Under 8 section of the 2012 ChessKid Online National Invitational Championship (5.0/7 @ Chess.com);
clear 1st in the 4th Grade section at the 2013 K-12 Grade Nationals (6.5/7 @ Orlando FL);
clear 1st in the 10 & Under section of the 2015 ChessKid Online National Invitational Championship (4.0/5 @ Chess.com);
tied for 1st in the 16 & Under section of the 2019 National Junior Congress (3.5/5 @ Cypress, CA).
In April 2012, I became the 7th youngest player to beat a USCF master in a regular rated game (4/13/2012).
In international competition, I won clear 1st and the gold medal in the Under 8 section of the North American Youth Championships (6.5/7, Mexico City) in June 2012, which got me the FIDE Candidate Master title. In November 2012, I came back from 103rd place after 5 rounds to win my last 6 games and tie for 4th at the 2012 World Youth Championships (8.0/11, 10th on tiebreaks, Maribor Slovenia). In my last game there, I won against India's Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, who later became the second-youngest GM of all time.
I qualified for the World Youth Chess Championships in 2011 (U8), 2012 (U8), 2014 (U10), and 2015 (U12). I also made the Trophies Plus All-American teams for 2014 and 2015.
I plan to attend MIT in the fall of 2022.
